1924	Raleigh Model 12	. In 1924 the horizontal twin was replaced by a new 799cc v-twin, which was available as a solo (Model 12) or motorcycle combination (Models 13 and 14). Rated at 7hp for taxation purposes, the sidevalve engine was of Raleigh�s own design and manufacture. The new v-twin featured all-chain drive via a Sturmey Archer three-speed gearbox, Brampton Biflex forks, dummy belt rim front brake and a 7� drum brake at the rear. A compact design meant that wheelbase ended up only 2� longer than that of the contemporary 350 single, making the twin a pleasant machine to ride in solo trim. 1959	1959 raleigh moped rm1	Despite such cunning marketing strategies, the raleigh moped - now known by collectors as the rm1 - was not a success in the extremely competitive new 49cc market. though it was sturdily built, the raleigh had no suspension, and no gearbox or clutch. the model was only made for 2 years, and in 1960 raleigh imported and sold the french mobylette as its replacement. interestingly, the raleigh moped rm1 - a british-built machine sold at a time when the 49cc market was dominated by foreign competition - had another claim to fame - because the engine of the rm1 is actually derived from the minimotor!
