Duke, the home of motorcycle sport on DVD, is delighted to announce the release of the latest
addition to its extraordinary “Champions” series, a celebration of Kenny Roberts.
Never previously available on DVD, this film explores the story of a true legend, whose breathtaking skills and determination took him to glory as a racer, and as a respected team boss.
‘King’ Kenny is, arguably, the greatest all-round motorcycle racer the world has ever seen. Champion Kenny Roberts traces a career which saw him take the American No.1 rider title two years in a row – in 1973 and 1974 – by winning a variety of events which made up a cross sectionof the sport in all its forms.
Awesome skills honed on the 100mph ovals of dirt track racing and in Formula 750 were then brilliantly applied to the 500cc World Championship, where Roberts stunned the sport by taking victory in his first season, 1978.
Incredibly, he secured the World Championship again in 1979 and 1980, earning millions of fans.
After proving himself a champion on all kinds of track, Roberts turned to the business side of racing, rapidly becoming one of the world’s most successful motorcycle team owners.
His remarkable career is recalled in awesome racing footage featuring unforgettable clashes with fellow legends like Barry Sheene, Eddie Lawson and Freddie Spencer. We hear from Roberts’ protégées Wayne Rainey and John Kocinski, but, most importantly, we hear from ‘King’ Kenny himself.
Roberts talks openly about the races, the machines, the people, the victories and the controversies which shaped and defined one of the most amazing motorcycle racing careers in history.
Champion Roberts includes two fascinating bonus features, charting the almost unbelievable success of the Marlboro Team Roberts outfit in its first two years in Grand Prix Racing.
Marlboro Team Roberts 1990 Season features action-packed highlights charting the team’s victorious debut year, as Wayne Rainey dominated the 500cc World Championship and John Kocinski secure the 250cc World Championship in a nail-biting finale, and Marlboro Team Roberts 1991 Season is the dramatic story of the gripping championship battle as Rainey roared to another title, and Kocinski graduated to 500cc Grand Prix racing.
Champion Kenny Roberts is Out Now on DVD, priced at £16.63 and will be available from leading video outlets or direct from Duke Video.
