Big bikes make big power, to get them through ever stringent emission laws the exhausts get bigger! It is that simple. Even simpler is that us ‘end users’ always opt to ditch the bulky standard items and replace them with posh products from the likes of Yoshimura, Akrapovic or some other brand that line up to take our bucks.

Where do standard parts go?”
We handle stacks of stock exhausts every month. Most come in from main dealer clearouts. These Hayabusa cans have been sat unused inside an Akrapovic cardboard box. They had seen very little, if any, use!
“Who buys them?”
In time people will want to put the standard bits back on when a bike reaches classic status. Things like R1 4XV ones were often sold on again for little return. Now they are in demand and because so many got damaged, or worse just thrown away, any surviving ones make good money.
The 2008 Hayabusa is a way off classic land, so standard silencers aren’t worth much.
This pair made £40! The lad that bought them wants to chop them up to fit his quad project! At least they’ll be used I guess.
