Flogged It Friday! Suzuki Nissin front brake calipers.
“They used these on loads of Suzuki models didn’t they?”
The Nissin 4 pot front calipers first showed up on the Suzuki GSX-R750J Slingshot back in the late 80’s. They were then used on the 1100K Slingshot model that arrived a year later and once the GSX-R gave up on them and went to the fancy pants Tokico 6 pots, Suzuki then used up the remaining stock on bikes like the Bandit 1200 and RF900.
“This pair look well tidy.”
They don’t always arrive looking so good, quite often they look rather nasty and poorly maintained. Brake calipers can not only be dangerous, but they can also cause brake discs to age prematurely if the pistons and pads aren’t functioning properly. These ones were in really good condition and ready to go straight back on another bike.
“Why not rebuild your old ones instead of buying another set?”
Good question! For some people it might be time and the skills are lacking to rebuild a poorly pair of calipers. It can also be that the buyer might want them for a project bike perhaps? For years I’ve never had any hassles selling decent used brake calipers, both front and rear ones. This pair of Nissin 4 pots sold straight away for £100, which is about £25 up on what they retailed for only a few years ago! Work that one out!?
