Flogged it Friday! Yamaha XJ550 front brake calipers.
“Is this braking news?”
Some motorcycle models slip from the biking landscape without us even realising it. Whilst every Tom, Dick and Harry can reminisce about the Yamaha RD350LC that comes from the same era, there aren’t too many tales being aired about the Yamaha XJ550. The 4 cylinder four stroke shared a similar styling brief, the tank and bodywork didn’t mimic the two stroke LC by accident. They even had the same trademark style wheels. The LC is now an iconic bike for many, yet the XJ550 is mostly forgotten.
“Will they fit a LC then?”
No. Despite looking like they might, they won’t do the job. I would’ve loved it if they did though. LC calipers can pull anywhere over £200 a pair depending on condition. Prices are pushed on by those who want to double disc their 250LC.
“How much are these worth?”
Considering that people won’t flog a kidney to buy any of the remaining XJ550 stock that’s still out there, I had to consider this when pricing these stoppers up. I licked my finger, stuck it in the wind and settled on £50. Within a day they were off to their new owner.
