Juan Garriga gears up for World GP Bike Legends

Juan GarrigaOne of Spain’s most memorable racing personalities will take to the track to compete once again.

One of the biggest names from the golden era of grand prix motorcycle racing – Juan Garriga – will return to the saddle at the first ever World GP Bike Legends to be held at Jerez, Spain on 19-21 June.

Garriga is best known for his sensational battle fought with Sito Pons for the 1988 250cc World Championship, as the spirited Spaniard left a lasting impression on the bike racing world, fighting his way to three victories and narrowly missing out on overall championship glory by just ten points.

“I think this is a fantastic initiative to bring back the old glories of our sport,” beamed Garriga. “No one has ever done this before, and I think it will be a resounding success. Can you imagine Freddie Spencer, Kevin Schwantz, Wayne Gardner, Loris Capirossi and everyone else returning to fight as if the clock has been reversed? It’s going to be amazing.”

World GP Bike Legends has already confirmed that the likes of Spencer, Gardner, Schwantz and Capirossi will all be racing flat out against one another on their original race bikes, and to make sure he can still mix it at the sharp end, Garriga has already begun his preparations for a competitive return. He continued, “As soon as I was asked to take part in this event I started to schedule practice sessions in the gym and at the race track. I think it’s going to be a pretty big party at Jerez in June.”

The party won’t just be on the track either, as live music from Bonnie Tyler and Toseland and some of the world’s top tribute acts all performing at the event. What’s more, access to the concerts plus open access to pits, paddock and grandstand seating are all included in the standard ticket price!
