The Zephyr is the first armoured jacket from Knox that is designed specifically for summer riding, in both men’s and women’s styles, which also looks stylish on and off the bike. In this review we have only tested the men’s version.
This completely new concept answers the issue faced by riders in hot or humid climates – finding clothing that will shield them from impact and abrasion but won’t be too warm for the conditions.
All too often motorcyclists discard their jackets when the temperature rises too far and resort to riding in just an armoured shirt or without any protection at all, in a desperate attempt to avoid over-heating.
Combining the best features of a mesh jacket and an armoured shirt the Zephyr delivers full venting, reinforced with abrasion-resistant fabrics and with the reassurance of class-leading Knox CE-protectors covering the shoulders, elbows and back.
- Fully vented – Arrownet mesh stretches nearly the full length of the front and back panels, and down each arm too. This reassuringly tough, yet light and comfy, mesh fabric allows maximum airflow, keeping the rider’s core cool and stopping the build-up of perspiration. Lined with fine soft-cotton, it’s also comfortable against the skin.
- Abrasion resistant – High tenacity nylon covers the shoulders, upper back and the outside of the arms – the areas most vulnerable in a slide or fall. Chosen for its significant strength, durability and abrasion resistance, the material is also breathable and stretchy, for added comfort and ease of movement, both on and off the bike.
- Impact-protection – Knox Lite+ CE-approved protectors are built into the shoulders and elbows, with a CE-approved Knox Back Protector covering the back. There’s also the option to fit a chest protector. Each protector has a low profile cut, smooth finish, thin edging and much greater articulation than hard armour. The Zephyr’s stretchy fabric and tailored fit, means each piece sits firmly where it’s needed.

Exterior pockets; high quality YKK zips throughout; a soft, ribbed collar for comfort; can be machine washed, with the protectors removed.

There’s also a waterproof overjacket in both men’s and women’s styles that can be purchased separately to fit neatly over the Zephyr jacket. Each overjacket folds away into its own zipped carry bag for easy storage.
The men’s over jacket fits into the concealed zipped back pocket on the Zephyr and the ladies overjacket slides neatly onto the leather belt.
The Review
We tested the jacked during the May ‘heatwave’ in temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius and it exceeded our expectations, the armour feels very solid and at the same time, your body remains constantly cool. No other jacket we have tested or used during the summer keeps you as cool as the Knox Zephyr. Knox have fulfilled a gap in the market without compromising on rider safety, a real premium product.
Snug fit (but not too snug), you might wish to consider ordering a size above your normal size so best to try before you buy. Two useful side pockets and a large pocket at the rear.
