When you’ve had your fill of turkey and family fun there’s a place you can go to get away from it all and rev up the New Year without a Christmas tree or cracker in sight.
The Carole Nash Classic Bike Guide Winter Classic Show, at Newark Showground in Nottinghamshire on January 5-6, 2013, will be an oasis of engines, forks, carbs and oil amid the debris of the festive season.
All private entry spots have been taken by enthusiasts eager to show off their most prized classic machines – ranging from a 1925 Levis T3 Popular to a 1992 Kawasaki Zephyr. Nestled among these will be an outlandish looking 2008 Confederate Wraith.
A separate display in the Lady Eastwood Pavilion will house the collection of Nottinghamshire lad David Wood which includes BSA A10s from 1958 and 1960, a 1965 BSA A65, a 1957 Triumph T100 and a Triumph 3TA from 1967, plus a 1956 New Hudson Autocycle and a 1980 Bultaco trials bike. Each is in immaculate fully restored condition.
The show’s guest of honour will be superbike racer Chris Walker and 35 clubs are planning to bring along some of their members’ finest machines for inspection. Among them will be the Italian Motorcycle Owners Club, Lincolnshire Triumph Motorcycle Club, British Historic Racing and the Goldwing Owners Classic Section.
Other marques being represented include Douglas, Sunbeam, Royal Enfield, Velocette, Trident and Rocket, AJS Matchless and classic Yamaha.
Eight scooter clubs are lined up for the Classic Scooter World hall, including the Vespa Club of Britain, the Lambretta Club of Great Britain and the British Scooter Sport Organisation, and there will be a choice selection of private scooter entries as well. A Vespa SS180 that was owned by Peter Quaife, the original bass player of The Kinks will be on display.
More than 300 traders will be offering everything from ignition systems to race jackets, tools, heat resistant mats, memorabilia and much more.
Classic Bike Shows organiser Nick Mowbray said: “We’ve put together a truly stunning line-up for Newark. The first Winter Classic last year was far more successful than we ever imagined it could be but the 2013 event is going to put it firmly in the shade. It’s great to spend time with loved ones at Christmas but it can get a bit hectic. Newark’s going to be the ideal tonic to help you relax and welcome in the New Year properly.”
