February 2014 was the start of a new and unique BMW Motorrad project. Gathered together in one room in Japan were four professional bike builders and one motorcycle – the new R nineT custom boxer. This meeting was the beginning of a four month plan for the respected artists to develop, build and create their own interpretations of a customised R nineT.
The 500,000th Boxer-powered GS model – a new R 1200 GS – has rolled off the production line at the BMW Motorrad factory. Construction of BMW motorcycles commenced at the Berlin-Spandau plant in 1969 and the first ever GS entered production in the autumn of 1980.
These two pedigree racers will accompany an astounding line-up of motorcycles at Bonhams’ January event on The Strip.
At a special celebration event held today at the BMW Museum in Munich, BMW Motorrad has unveiled the new R nineT classic roadster.
