The naked GSX1100EF and fully faired EFE version were the last of the big air cooled muscle bikes from Suzuki. Sadly they arrived moments before Suzuki pulled the covers off their all new GSX-R1100, their vision of the future.
For those who prefer heavy metal the GSX1100EF was still an attractive proposition. That’s not changed much over the decades. The engine represents the pinnacle of everything Suzuki learned whilst creating some of the most iconic air cooled four strokes of the last century. They were quick learners too, from the GS750 and GS1000 to the EF/EFE which was the last roll of the air cooled dice, there was just under a decade of models.
Many of these bikes got raced, crashed, rebuilt, raped for specials and stolen. The bikes that now remain are bonafide classics, that doesn’t mean that they all get restored to original condition. If you’ve owned or ridden a standard GSX1100 you will know what areas of its design are ripe for attention.
This Suzuki GSX1100EF is a subtle way of retaining the all the good parts, and improving on the areas where the EF could have always done better, maybe if the GSX-R1100 hadn’t arrived maybe Suzuki would’ve addressed the short comings with a second model? Grumpy 1260 have done a mega job of creating what a second generation EF might have looked like.
The essence of the standard bike is intact, the punching stripe paintwork is present, so to are the distinctive clocks. The handing and braking are where this EF blossoms. Up front is a Suzuki Bandit 1200 front end, this is a win win situation. The forks are beefier, more importantly the old 16 inch front wheel and twin pot brake calipers are now replaced by Nissin four pots and a 17 inch wheel.
To keep things looking uniform and bringing out the best from the makeover is a GSX-R swinging arm and a 5.50×17 Bandit rear wheel.
Grumpy 1260 know these bikes inside out, at their HQ near sunny King’s Lynn they also stock stacks of performance goodies for these dyno-saurs. Finishing touches on this freshly rebuilt bike are taken care of with some Dyna coils and one of their MotoGP Werks four into one exhaust systems.
This bike is now finished and up for sale! Asking price for this super Suzuki is a reasonable £4,250.
